Artist's Palette Yarns

Artist's Palette Yarns offer hand-painted and dyed luxury fibres in a kaleidoscope of colours. They are based in beautiful Worcestershire and specialise in small dye runs.  At present, we stock their scrumptious Buttersoft DK, a superwash merino.  Skeins are now available in 100g, with 225 yards each.  Due to supplier price increases, these are £9.50 a skein, which equates to just £4.75 for 50g.  The 50g skeins are coming back, though, never fear. Double check which size you're getting when you click 'add to cart'!  The 50g skeins have 112 yards and are £4.95 each.

We're delighted to be able to offer 'Whole Earth', a unique Ecoknits colourway, along with six other colours of this delightful Buttersoft Merino DK, and we are hoping to add more.  If there's a particular colour that you'd like us to offer, please let me know

Offering a superwash yarn was a bit of a moral dilemma - the process of rendering a pure wool fit to machine wash isn't the most environmentally friendly of processes.  Plus this Merino comes from Peru, so there are air miles involved in its production. However, we feel that it's important to offer a practical yarn, that is perfect for making baby clothes and children's wear.  By making our own sweaters, hats and cardigans as gifts for friends and family, with our own hands and unique yarn like this, we are supporting small independent businesses and removing some custom from the giant impersonal multinational companies that use slave labour to bring us cheap, mass produced clothing.  We have just found out, though, that some inventive soul has developed a mechanical way of doing it - watch this space!!
